Ziegenfuss, helps provide voice-controlled and adaptive laptop computers to wounded Soldiers, Sailors, Airmen and Marines recovering from hand wounds and other severe injuries at major military medical centers. Operating laptops by speaking into a microphone or using other adaptive technologies, our wounded heroes are able to send and receive messages from friends and loved ones, surf the 'Net, and communicate with buddies still in the field. The experience of MAJ Charles “Chuck” Ziegenfuss, a partner in the project who suffered serious hand wounds while serving in Iraq, illustrates how important these laptops can be to a wounded service member's recovery.

October 30th is the special night devoted to films credited to members of the Hollywood Ten by the Turner Classic Movies cable channel–-by my count, the fourth such program in the past five years or so. This is the sixtieth anniversary of the hearings conducted by the House Un-American Activities Committee on Communist influence in the motion picture industry-–in those pre-television days 80 million Americans, more than one-half the population, attended a movie every week. The witnesses refused on First Amendment grounds to answer questions about their alleged Communist affiliations, and the hearings became something of a circus, thanks to partisan committee members and some of the witnesses (whose leftist arrogance alienated many of their anti-Communist liberal supporters in Hollywood). Eight screenwriters, one director and one producer were held in contempt of Congress and imprisoned. The hearings led to a blacklist enforced by the studios, which started with the Ten (one of whom later cooperated and went back to work) and widened during the 1950’s.

Righteousness Through Faith

But now a righteousness from God, apart from law, has been made known, to which the Law and the Prophets testify. This righteousness from God comes through faith in Jesus Christ to all who believe. Here are the nine inconvenient facts the judge listed in contradicting Mr. Gore’s film:

Error one

Al Gore: A sea-level rise of up to 20 feet would be caused by melting of either West Antarctica or Greenland “in the near future”.

The judge’s finding: “This is distinctly alarmist and part of Mr. Gore’s “wake-up call”. It was common ground that if Greenland melted it would release this amount of water — “but only after, and over, millennia.”

Error two

Gore: Low-lying inhabited Pacific atolls are already “being inundated because of anthropogenic global warming.”

Judge: There was no evidence of any evacuation having yet happened.

Error three

Gore: The documentary described global warming potentially “shutting down the Ocean Conveyor” — the process by which the Gulf Stream is carried over the North Atlantic to western Europe.

Judge: According to the Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC), it was “very unlikely” it would be shut down, though it might slow down.

Error four

Gore: He asserted — by ridiculing the opposite view — that two graphs, one plotting a rise in CO₂ and the other the rise in temperature over a period of 650,000 years, showed “an exact fit”.

Judge: Although there was general scientific agreement that there was a connection, “the two graphs do not establish what Mr Gore asserts”.

Error five

Gore: The disappearance of snow on Mt Kilimanjaro was expressly attributable to global warming.

Judge: This “specifically impressed” David Miliband, the Environment Secretary, but the scientific consensus was that it cannot be established that the recession of snows on Mt Kilimanjaro is mainly attributable to human-induced climate change.

Error six

Gore: The drying up of Lake Chad was used in the film as a prime example of a catastrophic result of global warming, said the judge.

Judge: “It is generally accepted that the evidence remains insufficient to establish such an attribution. It is apparently considered to be far more likely to result from other factors, such as population increase and over-grazing, and regional climate variability.”

Error seven

Gore: Hurricane Katrina and the consequent devastation in New Orleans to global warming.

Judge: There is “insufficient evidence to show that”.

Error eight

Gore: Referred to a new scientific study showing that, for the first time, polar bears were being found that had actually drowned “swimming long distances — up to 60 miles — to find the ice”.

Judge: “The only scientific study that either side before me can find is one which indicates that four polar bears have recently been found drowned because of a storm.” That was not to say there might not in future be drowning-related deaths of bears if the trend of regression of pack ice continued — “but it plainly does not support Mr Gore’s description”.

Error nine

Gore: Coral reefs all over the world were bleaching because of global warming and other factors.

Judge: The IPCC had reported that, if temperatures were to rise by 1-3 degrees centigrade, there would be increased coral bleaching and mortality, unless the coral could adapt. But separating the impacts of stresses due to climate change from other stresses, such as over-fishing, and pollution was difficult.

Our thanks to the judge for making these substantial cracks in the foundations of AlGore’s questionable hypothesis. It is comforting to know that at least Britain has some kind of check in place to prevent a nationwide brainwashing of school children.

The Bush administration reported the deficit had trimmed down to about $163 billion in the recent budget year. That’s the lowest amount of red ink in five years, and the president says it represents a below-average 1.2% of the gross domestic product.

After meeting with his economic team,Bush said low taxes can “grow the economy,” and that by being “fiscally responsible,” the budget can be brought “toward balance.”

This year’s figure sliced more than 34% off the previous year’s deficit, which totaled nearly $250 billion.

Our deficit is at historic lows, and yet Democrats said the Bush tax cuts would make it go up.

Continued proof that liberal ideas are a miserable failure in the real world.

You need any more Halloween Nightmares?  Here's one that is still going on for the poor innocent folks in Zimbabwe...

Approximately 42 years ago, in response to what they saw as the end of their way of life, the government of (what was then called) Rhodesia took a dramatic and controversial step.  It cost them dearly, for, without the support of most of the world, they eventually (1980) gave in to the pressure of the the USA, the UN and the communist-trained (and equipped) armies that fought them and rigged the elections right in front of the UN teams:

Whereas in the course of human affairs history has shown that it may become necessary for a people to resolve the political affiliations which have connected them with another people and to assume amongst other nations the separate and equal status to which they are entitled:

Now therefore, we, the Government of Rhodesia, do hereby declare:

History has shown that Robert Mugabe, trained in North Korea by Kim Sung Il's forces, has been a brutal murderer (including many of those who fought for him).  He has suspended and/or destroyed civil rights for everyone in the country (now called Zimbabwe).  Mugabe has destroyed the food production capabilities of Zimbabwe and now tens of millions of neighbors who were once fed by the farms of Zimbabwe must look elsewhere.

Where is Bono in all of this?  I have not heard Madonna complain about this madman.  Sean Penn has been too busy playing footsie with Hugo Chavez (who is doing the same things to Venezuela that Mugabe did to Rhodesia).

To Hades, I say, to Eternal Damnation with the hypocrites!  Millions are starving to death because Jimmy Carter allowed communists to destroy a former ally in Southern Africa.

Meanwhile, "Code Pink" demands we surrender to al Qaeda. " What a world, what a world..."
